Madhumati, what a brilliant ensemble of songs.. Truly one of the best ever albums in totality… The biggest hit commercial for Salil da & Bimal Roy in their entire career… Bimal da not happy with majority of first outdoor shoot in Nainitaal, reshot significant part of the film in Nasik… Also heavily edited the film for the perfact impact…. and that made him compromise on a few songs… One mujra by Mubaarak Beghum “Hum Haal E Dil Sunaayenge” was kept for only a minute and half…
While the another song.. .The Woodcutters song which Salil da based on one his his IPTA songs, was completely removed…. The audio survived on records…..
The song features an interesting template of Men at Work, at the wood cutting workshop.. and female cursing them for spending all the time at work..
Salil da used Dwijen Mukherjee’s voice & chorus for a great effect also accompanying instruments giving the ambiance of the wooden factory [of Pran]
The tune/singing inspiration came from the Coal Miners song – Sixteen Tons by Merle Travis.
