The pain of separation lands with a hard hitting punch, on our souls, leaving it wounded, for the helplessness we feel, unable to do anything for the characters, unable to stop the brutal murder of innocence before our eyes.
When innocence dies on screen, a part of the engrossed viewer dies with it. That’s the power of cinema.
Even when it’s fiction unfolding onscreen, Jagjit Kaur inhabits that pain as if it were her own, and Khayyam saab captures the emotion in every note, weaving a melody and atmosphere that stays with you.
This remains one of the most heartbreaking moments in cinema for me.
